Some Occasionally Asked Questions:
Are these works for sale?
Yes, any that are not sold already are available for sale. Depending on the particular circumstances a given piece may be sold through a gallery, exhibition organiser or directly. If you let me know which one you're interested in, I can advise as to cost and the best method for purchase etc.
I like a work that's sold, can you make another?
Some of my works come in editions so there are several very similar ones for sale until the edition is sold out. Unfortunately once that happens, it wouldn't be ethical for me to make more - nor would it be fair to the people who have bought the first set. With the larger individual works; Most artists don't make exact copies because to be completely honest, it benefits an artist's development more to create new works than duplicate old ones. Having said that like most artists, my work has recurrent aesthetic themes so it may be possible to develop a new work that has a similar flavour to an old one without being a direct copy.
I've seen one of your works in a show, can I buy it cheaper direct from you?
No. I never undercut my galleries or cheat exhibition organisers of commissions - no ethical artists do. Part of becoming a successful artist is the prestige that accompanies being represented in high profile exhibitions. If we cheat the people that help us develop our profiles, we're biting the hand that feeds us!
Can you ship overseas?
Yes of course. The cost for some of the works would be prohibitive but for others it may be surprisingly cheap. For example Seaside Memories could be shipped to the US for not much more than $100. If you pay via paypal then you also get the reassurance of their buyer protection scheme - (If you don't get the goods or they're not as described they will give you your money back).
Why is your work so cheap / so expensive?
Oddly I sometimes get asked both! It depends on your perspective, but the answers are:
Cheap: Because the bulk of my clients are ordinary people who have the extraordinary good taste to like my work :) - I try to keep prices within reason because I want my work to go to people who really appreciate it.
Expensive: Because I value my work and time and you as a collector should never buy work from an artist who doesn't value his/her own work. Also, if you think how many hours it takes to create a particular piece and multiply that by your own hourly salary, you'll be surprised what that adds up to! We're very used to seeing pseudo-art pieces bashed out in China by the thousand at unbelievably cheap prices. Some of it looks ok and if you like it, buy it. But if you want to collect real art by real artists, unfortunately, it does cost western world prices. The good news is that if you select your artists carefully, the value of the work will probably increase. Of course the trick is to know which artist to collect and nobody is ever 100% certain of that!
Do you undertake commissions?
Yes, absolutely. Although sometimes people confuse artists with fabricators. If what you're after is someone to create a piece to a specific design of your own, then you probably need a professional fabricator rather than an artist. But if you want a piece for a particular location with a certain flavour, then it is an artist you're looking for and I'd be very happy to discuss possibilities.
Are all Tim's works listed on this site?
By no means. This is just a selection. If you bought a piece marked Tim Wetherell that doesn't appear here and you're concerned about its authenticity just contact me above.
