Paintography

This is a new area I'm exploring as a natural follow on from learning to draw and paint, it involves creating a traditional painting in oil on canvas then photographing it and digitally manipulating it. I'm hoping to create a sort of surreal half way house between what's reality and what's pure imagination.

One of the great powers of photography as an art form is it's realism. I don't mean just that it looks real but that when one sees a photograph it portrays an event that really happened, a person that really lived. In that way photographs have the ability to move us in ways no other art form can. A painting on the other hand, no matter how well executed, rather lacks that quality.

Given that much of my work touches on the world of Steampunk and a past that never was, I began to wonder what would happen if I were to take some of my paintings and digitally manipulate them into photograph-like representations of that world.

As with all my art I greatly value the feedback of those who view it - after all that's why it's made! So if you like this new style, please give me a Facebook like - then I'll know. :)
